The Hills story began in 1945 when Lancelot (Lance) Leonard Hill returned home from the Second World War to find his wife, Sherry, struggling with an inefficient traditional clothesline. Determined to create a better solution, Lance used old pipe and a welder to build a revolutionary rotary clothesline that could be raised and lowered with ease, saving space while making washing faster and more efficient.
The simple yet ingenious invention quickly impressed family, friends, and neighbours, laying the foundation for what would become the world-famous Hills Hoist.
